On his 11th birthday, Harry learns he is a wizard. For most of his life, he's been living with his cruel relatives, the Dursleys, who have kept his magical past a secret. Why won't Harry die? Because it would be a worse story if Harry died, and she's a good writer. The genre she's writing in (the British school drama), the main character doesn't die. (source)
