Butterbeer Recipe

Direct from The Three Broomsticks, a recipe for Butterbeer you can make at home:

Ingredients:

12 fluid ounces of root beer OR cream soda (for American readers, 1 can)
1 tablespoon of honey
2 teaspoons of butter

Directions:

Step 1: Place root beer (or cream soda) into a microwave safe glass and heat in microwave for about 30 seconds.

Step 2: Remove root beer (or cream soda) and sit aside while you place butter into microwave long enough to melt it.

Step 3: Now, add your warm root beer (or cream soda), melted butter and honey to the blender and blend for 5-10 seconds. (We recommend 5 as going past this may remove all the fizziness from your root beer (or cream soda) and it just won't taste the same!)

Step 4: Enjoy!

Mmm... Butterbeer...

It sounds great in the books but the recipe makes it seem like it's bad for my health. Yikes!

kate guhl:

deenie:

Harry luvr:

It is good. I made it once. but i lost the recipe, so i went back to mugglenet, but htey don't have it anymore(why, I don't know) so thats how I got here.

RUPERT_FREAK_01:

butterbeer sounds realllllly good!!! in the book JK makes it sound sooo good! do you think she may have tried it before?

I think it sounds very good but i microwaved it longer so it was kinda like hot chocolate but all fizzy o.o Yes, it is good... Dont use too much butter!! and dont use margarine.. like the stick kind, it adds a very..er.. 'interesting' after taste... sorta like metal..

Like Lorin said, go easy on the butter, and don't ever substitute margarine. Oh, and use the unsalted kind.

Syde:

I just made it, its ok....but I figure Iike it better when I use more butter and less honey

deenie:

Julie:

Excellent! It actually takes very good. I put the root beer on 10 seconds longer to make it a bit warmer, but it's still perfect.

alex:

made it last night and it was pretty good. we put a drop of rum in it, and it was great.

gryffindor:

SUPERCOOL!!!!!!!!!!

Lily Potter:

I absolutley love it!

Christine:

That's great and all but they also drink it cold in the books. I think they need to market the itlike soda. In bottles! Same kind of flavor but cold!

charles:

The butterbeer is splendid! but if you put in a tsp of maple syrup it makes it even better

Myrtle:

Daniel Radcliffe is gay. Seriously. Not stupid gay. He's just...gay.

FYI: When asked about Butterbeer by "Bon Appetit" magazine, JKR responded: "I made it up. I imagine it to taste a little bit like less-sickly butterscotch."

Kate Potter:

cool, sounds a bit sickly but il try it!!

Jay:

Super Guppy and Billy Bob need to grow up. You guys sound like total idiots.

SuNkIsT:

I don't think it's supposed to taste like butter does it? All it said in the book was that it really warms you up.

sirius black:

on the cold dreary nights when i am alone i sip this drink. And boy does it bring out the wizard in me!

ok...is this the real recipe? because i went to many other sites, and they had like a whole lot of ingredients...this only has 3! however, i did try this one because this was the easiest one that i could find and i had all the ingredients :) but i tried it and it didn't taste bad...cheers!

Sara Belasco:

Gilderoy Lockhart:

How do I battle fake warewolves and vampires? The secret my friends, is butterbeer...My kind of drink!!

jlrush:

Rowling says she imagines butterbeer tastes like butterscotch and root beer.

Cassie:

Hm...I love Harry Potter but i was a little disappointed at the recipe. Rowling makes it sound sooo much better.

mism:

HONEY??????
EWE
i prefer butterscotch!!!
but i guess it would be ok if you like honey...

mism:

Here is a good recipe:
1 can of rootbeer
1/3 cup of butterscotch
1 tsp. of vanilla extract
1/2 cup of milk
and 1 tsp. of cinnamon

mix together and bring to a light boil

Mindy:

I tryed it and I was'ny so pleased. There was a lining of butter in my mouth, it tasted weird. I advise you not to try it!

i have never had it but i wondered what it really tasted like cuz i never had it. but i also wondered if it was really real i didnt think it was. anywho im gonna make it as soon as we get some honey and from what u ppl r sayin its good. and rootbeer is my fav. drink!

josh:

yeah,i tried it and it was wanderfull mmmmmmmmmmm!

FreyaLynn:

i'm going to try it tomorrow. im thinking its not a warm drink, it warms you cuz its alcohlic. im going to try creme soda and butterscotch liquer. im thinking half ounce to a can, i'll let ya know!

FreyaLynn:

Okie dokie u guys... for the over 21 crowd, i think i've got it!! half ounce of buttershots and one can of creme soda.. oh yeah its rocking!!!! my husband agrees.. theres ur butterbeer.. also rootbeer works too!!

peterbobgeorgefred:

hmmmmm!sounds good i think ill have some

Parizad:

It's bad on me!
I tried it thrice...didnt work!
I'm sure it did it all correct!
Its been a disappointment!

Parizad:

Isn't this correct?

Step 1: Place root beer (or cream soda) into a microwave safe glass and heat in microwave for about 30 seconds.

Step 2: Remove root beer (or cream soda) and sit aside while you place butter into microwave long enough to melt it.

Step 3: Now, add your warm root beer (or cream soda), melted butter and honey to the blender and blend for 5-10 seconds. (We recommend 5 as going past this may remove all the fizziness from your root beer (or cream soda) and it just won't taste the same!)

I've dont it all!
Face it... This recipe doesn't work!

Parizad:

this is the fifth time I've failed at it! Bah!
You'd think I'd quit trying by now, eh?

FreyaLynn:

forget that long recipe.. im telling you... 1.5 oz buttershots, 1 can cream soda (or rootbeer), its rockin.. im having some now... you can even use diet soda! ps. butterbeer only warms you cuz its alcoholic. its not a *warm* drink.. cheers!

Shira:

Does JK Rowling have any comments about these recipies anywhere?

Parizad:

Its nice.
mmmmmmm....lip-smacking!

Parizad:

It did finally work out! on my seventh attempt! But I'll thank FreyaLynn for the advice...Thanx a lot Freyalynn!

Ali:

I think Butterbeer should definately be warm...and perhaps less alcoholic...and i'm thinkin of addin Melted Fudge to that recipie, thats the idea i had of it when i first read it in the book! If anyone has any ideas, plz let me know :)

AmericanGirl:

I always wondered what it would taste like so I think I'll give it a try. I saw another butterbeer recipe and I might try it after I try this one. They made it sound really good in the book. I'll tell you what I thought after I make it. I hope its good. I decided to use cream soda. I love cream soda so I bet it is good.

Amanda:

WOW its great.. the only thing i do not liek is the honey.. to me it tastes horrible .. os i make it with butterscotch lol.. muchh better

Okalydokaly:

THats sounds good, grate 4 parties and just wanting to vege out on sweets!

Happy_Bunny:

It tastes better with butterscotch, rather than honey but i'll let u ppl make the decision!

Rachel:

It actually comes hot or cold, in mugs warmed up or in chilled bottles.

wemoonwitch:

Nobody should prepare this recipe in a microwave, it works just as good in a glass or stainless steel pot, without the radiation. By the way, what are buttershots and can I get them at any liquor store? Mmmm.......... sounds good

Rosemarie:

It so good. But when you look at the recipie it doesn't.

YUMM!!! i just made it and it is good but i think i may have put too much butter in it...and it was salted but it was still yummy!but after a while if you don't stir it alot while you drink it gets gross.

George.w.Bush:

i guess it was ok but i can't complain so cheers!

My boyfriend has tried them and he's a new person since than. The confidence..., the courage!

harryfan:

i want to try it but i hav to get some root beer
do u just add root beer butter and coffee cream?

bronwyn:

I can't find an alcoholic butterbeer recipe. I'm pretty sure it is alcoholic... not strong, sort of like Boone's farm, only weaker.

I can't understand why a person will take a year to write a novel when he can easily buy one for a few dollars.

Krushna:

jay:

Lily:

Eh, not that great. The taste of the hot rootbeer gets really sickening after a while.

Stevo:

The best butterbeer I've ever made went something like this:

Rootbeer
Butterscotch syrup (Hershey's)
Butterscotch schnapps (to warm you up!)
Whipped cream (stir it in)
Nutmeg
Cinnamon
A bit of Vanilla Ice Cream stirred in

Not warm, but really tasty!

Flaming fuzzy:

In the book winky got drunk on it, so it is alchoholic, but it also warms you up, and just a tiny bit of alchohol isn't enough to do that, so i would say use the alchoholic recipe(provided you are 21 or older), and heat it up a bit.

Buy www.i-directv.net this it is a wonderful addition to anyones home entertainment system.

Sounds good... butterbeer

jay:
