Butterbeer Recipe

Posted by: Sorting Hat   in Hogsmeade

Direct from The Three Broomsticks, a recipe for Butterbeer you can make at home:

Ingredients:
12 fluid ounces of root beer OR cream soda (for American readers, 1 can)
1 tablespoon of honey
2 teaspoons of butter
Directions:
Step 1: Place root beer (or cream soda) into a microwave safe glass and heat in microwave for about 30 seconds.
Step 2: Remove root beer (or cream soda) and sit aside while you place butter into microwave long enough to melt it.
Step 3: Now, add your warm root beer (or cream soda), melted butter and honey to the blender and blend for 5-10 seconds. (We recommend 5 as going past this may remove all the fizziness from your root beer (or cream soda) and it just won’t taste the same!)
Step 4: Enjoy!

It sounds great in the books but the recipe makes it seem like it’s bad for my health. Yikes!

I think it sounds very good but i microwaved it longer so it was kinda like hot chocolate but all fizzy o.o Yes, it is good… Dont use too much butter!! and dont use margarine.. like the stick kind, it adds a very..er.. ‘interesting’ after taste… sorta like metal..

July 29th, 2003 at 9:29 am
 9

Like Lorin said, go easy on the butter, and don’t ever substitute margarine. Oh, and use the unsalted kind.

Isn’t this correct?
Step 1: Place root beer (or cream soda) into a microwave safe glass and heat in microwave for about 30 seconds.
Step 2: Remove root beer (or cream soda) and sit aside while you place butter into microwave long enough to melt it.
Step 3: Now, add your warm root beer (or cream soda), melted butter and honey to the blender and blend for 5-10 seconds. (We recommend 5 as going past this may remove all the fizziness from your root beer (or cream soda) and it just won’t taste the same!)
I’ve dont it all!

forget that long recipe.. im telling you… 1.5 oz buttershots, 1 can cream soda (or rootbeer), its rockin.. im having some now… you can even use diet soda! ps. butterbeer only warms you cuz its alcoholic. its not a *warm* drink.. cheers!

I always wondered what it would taste like so I think I’ll give it a try. I saw another butterbeer recipe and I might try it after I try this one. They made it sound really good in the book. I’ll tell you what I thought after I make it. I hope its good. I decided to use cream soda. I love cream soda so I bet it is good.

The best butterbeer I’ve ever made went something like this:
Rootbeer
Butterscotch syrup (Hershey’s)
Butterscotch schnapps (to warm you up!)
Whipped cream (stir it in)
Nutmeg
Cinnamon
A bit of Vanilla Ice Cream stirred in
Not warm, but really tasty!

In the book winky got drunk on it, so it is alchoholic, but it also warms you up, and just a tiny bit of alchohol isn’t enough to do that, so i would say use the alchoholic recipe(provided you are 21 or older), and heat it up a bit.

i made a butterbeer recipe that people might like. i thought that the honey wasnt good. its a tad complicated. but i think its good
(use eating utensils)
1 heaping teaspoon of condensed milk
1 1/2 cups of root beer/cream soda
1 1/2 heaping teaspoons of brown sugar
3 shakes of cinnimon
1 tbsp of unsalted butter
1 tbsp of vanilla extract
in a saucing pan, melt the butter and then add the brown sugar
then add a dash of cinniman and the vanilla extract
add the condensed milk, and stir until melted
add 1 cup of rootbeer/butter beer, stir until smooth
heat until about to boil, then add in the remaining 1/2 cup of root beer, DO NOT STIR
it will give it bubbles
pour into cup and enjoy

Hi, I’m from Mexico and I have done this butterbeer many times, but last week I couldn’t get Rootbeer so I put Mineral Water instead, and, believe me… it isn’t a good idea, I’ve just discovered this section about the butterbeer, so I’ll try new ways now that I have new recipes, THANKS!!! Have a good day, my best wishes for you.

i’m surprised at several things.
no. 1: that the butter, being a fat,
mixes with the other ingredients.
no. 2: that people actually find warm soft drinks palatable.
no.3: that something that sweet could be any good,
and no.4: that you all are so consumed by a fictional book that you debate over what the best recipe is for a fictional drink.

This is for the under-21 crowd who can’t enjoy the above recipe. Ok, I haven’t actually tried this…but drinking actual melted butter seems a little icky. Sooo… here’s my suggestions for cold butterbeer (because that seems more appealing to me):1 Can of Creme Soda or Root Beer if you like that, a few tablespoons of butterscotch syrup, a bit (maybe 1/2 tsp - 1 tsp) butter flavored extract. Pour syrup and extract in a glass, stir. Then pour chilled soda on top and mix gently until all are combined.
Now, butter-flavored extract normally doesn’t appeal to me…but it seems better than drinking butter.
If you must have it hot…I guess try at least heating the butterscotch syrup & extract…then adding room temp soda. Or heat the soda too (in a microwave-safe container, NOT the can!)…but not enough to de-fizz it.
Maybe some vanilla extract in addition might be nice as well. I will try this soon and let you know…if anyone else is brave enough to try my invention…do tell.

I read all of the comments made and I think you all need to know that Rowlings said that butterbear is NONacholic she said she imagined it to be like root beer and butterscotch like someone else already mentioned. Now I am not saying that you all can use your alcholic recipes they sound good too but if you really want it to be like what the author had in mind I think a recipe with root beer and butterscotch would be best.

If any of you want, you can try using tiny mackintosh’s toffee candies instead of/in addition to the honey, and also add warmed milk to taste. I tried it and it tasted very very good. Couldn’t keep the fizz, though.
